“In time of crisis, we summon all our strength,” wrote Muriel Rukeyser in her 1949 book The Life of Poetry. During the pandemic, the Cultivating Voices Poetry Open Mic is a virtual LIVE venue where lovers of poetry come together to listen as writers worldwide summon their strength and promote social unity through the literary arts. Hosted by Sandy Yannone, author of Boats for Women (Salmon Poetry, 2019) and Beth Yannone. Please join us.
All are welcome!
HOW IT WORKS: There will be 12 time slots between 3pm-6pm PACIFIC TIME, fifteen (15) minutes for each reader. THE SIGN UP SHEET FOR EVERY SUNDAY'S OPEN MIC WILL BE POSTED UP EVERY THURSDAY AT 12 NOON PACIFIC TIME, 3PM EASTERN TIME. ***Out of respect for cultivating more voices, please do not sign up for two consecutive weeks.***
Poets who wish to do a LIVE reading sign up by posting their name and preferred time slot in the comments section. The first person to claim the time slot receives the time. Please check to make sure no one else has claimed your desired slot in the comments listed before you. In other words, first come, first assigned!
*** Prior to final confirmation of each time slot, we are asking each reader who signs up to do a demonstration that they understand how to go LIVE. We recommend you use your cell phone or tablet to do your LIVE broadcast. These are the devices that Elizabeth Ann is familiar with, if you use a computer or laptop you will need to research how to do it on your own time. IF you do use a computer or laptop it is recommended that you use CHROME NOT SAFARI. *** Please contact Elizabeth Ann to to the TEST by SATURDAY, 3pm PACIFIC. We would like to problem solve and address all issues prior to the Open Mic. We are striving to have the experience for both the reader and the audience be as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We also are recommending that each confirmed reader submits a biographical statement (50-100 words). Please submit your Biography to Sandy Yannone by SATURDAY, 3PM PACIFIC TIME. We will post the final set list as soon as time slots fill or by FRIDAY, 3:00pm PACIFIC TIME.
HOW TO SET YOUR STAGE: You have entire creative license on setting your stage. Keep it simple or be creative! We want this experience to be an artistic refuge for you and our audience members in these worrisome times. Be mindful that this open mic group will not condone any hateful representations of targeted populations. All videos will be available in the group page posts for anyone who would like to watch after the "live" open mic has ended.
YOU MUST BE IN THE CULTIVATING VOICES POETRY OPEN MIC GROUP PAGE WHEN YOU GO LIVE! NOT ON THE EVENT PAGE! Finally, this is a new venture for us. There is the possibility that some kinks may need to be worked out. We appreciate your patience and understanding!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION! WE ARE SO THRILLED TO HAVE YOU BE A PART OF THIS POETRY COMMUNITY!
